birthday celebrations.

french breakfast dinner dinner playing on the beach

this week i celebrated my birthday ! it always sneaks up on me too fast, and then is gone in a flash… do you ever feel like that too? i had an awesome day of relaxation – the highlight for me was the unseasonal autumnal weather … ahhhhhhh, bliss. i had a full french breakfast at my favourite french cafe, watched a christmas movie with joey while baby slept, ate burgers & fries for dinner in my ultimate location with mark & the kids, skyped my sister in lon-don and went to the movies with mark to see skyfall (we even treated ourselves to a choc top ice cream cone – ooh aah !). it was positively the best.

all my gifts !

and look at all my presents!!! a replica eames hang it all, the ever essential blazer from bec&bridge, blog inc. (so appropriate) and parisian chic. perfect.

what do you like best about your birth-day?

if it’s a boy …

how sweet is this little black & white room from over at Forever Love … I love the cloud pillow on the wall and the cot sheets. It’s a little bit edgy, not typical baby and so easy to add colour.

We’re not sure what we’re having but we’re finding out soon !!!!

i had the pleasure of hanging out with this lovely lady this morning at a friend’s birthday celebrations. i don’t get to see her much, but when I do it is such an encouraging, inspiring and fun time. she is incredibly down to earth, yet so incredibly talented. she is a superstar mum to her two little ones & still manages to be creative and run an amazing business. thanks sarah for the good times !

la femme d’argent.

mark has been away for the last two weeks and i have a week and a half to go without my better half … how will i survive? living at mum & dad’s and emails from my love like this:

“La Femme D’Argent – simply means the one who takes care of home in a very positive way.

Argent or Silver is hard shiny metal way cheaper than gold or any precious stones but way more common in use on the daily life basis. Word Femme is light and soft itself and may give negative touch or resonance to hard metal and currency from easy spending perspective, but here it should be looked at positively as the carrier of fairly small but crucial amount of money that’s needed to be spent on home needs to keep it warm and welcome.

Look at it as someone who bakes bread in the morning. And multiply it to the level of modern understanding of someone very wise, warm and caring.

Can you see the reason I am the luckiest girl alive?!?!?!?!?!

It just so happens that one of our favourite French bands is Air. Love them. Here is one of our favourite tunes that I have been listening to ever since I got Mark’s email this morning.

p.s. don’t you just love audrey tautou? i wish i was her.

Guest Post: Spring Fashion #2

Well … I know you just could not get enough of Cassie’s covetous style so I am pleased to say we have one final drop from her. Oh how I wish this friend still lived close by … but I know she is well loved and cared for in her hometown. Much love dear friend …

Floral print jackets –

If the printed pant trend isn’t quite where you’re most happy, but you still want to embrace the spring fashion of bright & bold flowery prints – may I suggest opting for the jacket version instead. Mixed with a cute striped tee & slouchy boyfriend short during the day, sparkly singlet & slim jeans in the evening. Done!

Wide-legged Pant -

Strip-off those skin-tight jeans & leggings, & let your legs breathe. Aaahhh…. Doesn’t that feel good? Paired with a chunky wedge & comfy tee, you’ll be one classy & comfortable lady about town. I have spotted quite a lot in white (scary, I know) but other spring colors work too, along with navy. High-waisted, or regular, I’ve seen both – the choice is yours!

Coral coloured,  Blue coloured.

Cropped sweater -

This is one of my all-time favorite essentials to splurge on this Spring. A light-weight, open knit sweater that cuts-off around your mid-riff or just above the hips – keeping the cooler spring evening air at bay, without feeling heavy or over-dressed. It’s a gem of a piece.

Neon -

It is a teeny-tiny fine line between colorful fun & 80’s horror. I believe it’s all about moderation – making sure the euro bright you add to your outfit isn’t joining a collage of other fluro items. A splash of neon is one sure way to shake-off the last dregs of winter & say hello to Spring!

Mix ‘n Match –

Last on the list is not an individual item but a tip – Mix. It. Up! One of the joys of this current season is the lack of rules for patterns, colors, fabrics & how you mash them all together. Have fun mixing-in vintage scarves, bright clutches, leopard print flats, red lips. As a self-confessed “matcher” this is a tricky trend for me to embrace. I always like the tie-it-together piece. So, I’m learning to keep an eye on braver girls who mix-it-up & gain inspiration from their ideas. Best of all – pull-out the shoes, earrings & handbags you may have overlooked for several seasons & see how they work now. You may just save your self some precious pennies!

If you missed out on Cassie’s first post you can grab it here.

Guest Post: Spring Fashion #1

While I am on a little hiatus from the blogosphere I have some guest posts coming up in the next few weeks. Let’s just say I’m a little bit excited ! Today my gorgeous friend Cassie who lives across the ocean & in a different timezone has given us some much needed Spring fashion tips. This is absolutely perfect for the stunning Spring weather Sydney has been putting on this week. Here are the first of her picks for the season ….

“During the Northern Hemisphere Spring we spent some time in the fashionable cities of LA & London. Naturally, I wore my dark glasses for a spot of people watching (the socially acceptable, non-creepy type, I promise!)

Here is what I spied & loved, & wished I could pack in my suitcase home…

Floaty, high-waisted, pleated skirts –

Did I get enough descriptors into the title? It’s a sure sign of my excitement for these pretty skirts with fine pleats. British babes of every shape, height & style were wearing them, boasting their femininity in the lightweight fabric, and not baring all the way up the thigh either! *sigh of relief*

Paired with ankle boots or cute oxfords, you’re in the perfect get-up for walking the city as the weather warms-up.

Oxfords

These seasonal favorites don’t seem to be letting–up, & to that I say – hoorah! Oxfords switch perfectly between stylish & comfortable, warm & cold weather. This Spring I spotted a few updates – with girls sporting Oxfords a little more on the side of whimsy, in white; two-tone colors; metallic’s; or floral prints.

Leg shot, Shiny, Floral.

Sleeveless silk shirt -

I’m continuing-on with the theme of feminine & these shirts pair perfectly with the aforementioned skirts. Shirts & skirts, it sounds traditional, I know! But take the sleeves off the shirts, make them smooth-on-your-skin silk & in candy colors or floral prints – you can’t go wrong.

Panama Hat –

I realize straw hats, & fedora-styles in particular, aren’t a truly new item. But the Panama hat, in a lighter wash & with a broader rim, is a look that goes from beachside to city street with ease.

Oh, & did I mention what a LIFE-saver they are when your hair washing falls behind schedule? Indeed.

Bracelets, bracelets & more bracelets –

Apparently, there’s no such thing as too many! Our wrists have been naked for long enough! Piled one after the other, in any color, style or size, bracelets allows your own individual style & taste to be on display, without having to redo your entire wardrobe. With this, there truly are no rules!

(Plus, you’ll have some very buff forearms by the end of it.)

Cass – these picks are truly divine … THANK YOU !!

If you want to see more of what Cassie is up to be sure to hop on over to her blog ! I must say, you have a way with words Mrs T – I just love reading about all of your adventures & I especially love your style.

home improvement DIY.

i am learning a lot about my time living in apartments. apartment living is awesome fun & i miss it a lot. i miss the community, the knowledge that there is someone just next door. i miss how easy it is to heat or cool an apartment. i miss the location of apartment living … so convenient, & for us on our favourite beach in the whole wide world !

one thing that i have been reflecting on recently is that when i was living in apartments i never really had any ‘buy in’ for staying there long term. this meant my furniture was very haphazard & i essentially only acquired what i desperately needed & what fit the (teeny weeny) space. in our old complex we had a saying … “less than less is more”. every council clean up we would all basically put our entire apartment on the side of the road and then start rebuilding. thanks to ikea & op shops it was easy to have this flexibility to change our apartment as our needs changed every six months or so.

now that we are in a house, i am realising more and more how much i dislike our furniture & how desperate i am to put some hard yards in to make it look amazing. after all, we are going to be here for a looooooong time ! i want every item in our house to be an item that i absolutely love. this means it will be a long process, but i am sure the rewards will be great !!

in the meantime, i am going to make do with what we have. so, this brings me to my little DIY that i whipped up the other day. here is a total eyesore that just (& I mean JUST) fit into our little apartment …

isn’t it horrible? i really should paint it white, but at the moment i have a lot on my plate so i will just have to wait. a friend of mine suggested making a little curtain to hide some of the mess. so that’s exactly what i did ! here’s how it goes …

i chose the fabric.

i lay the fabric out to decide in what order i would like them.

i cut. i sewed & voila !

while this has been a vast improvement to our TV cabinet, i must admit i am not 100% in love. the floral material needs a bit of neon pink or neon yellow & perhaps the background colour should be white rather than black. nevertheless, it will absolutely do for now !

what little home improvements have you been up to lately?

neon.

i have been really sick these last two weeks :( i don’t get sick so it is a bit weird being sick. my husband has been amazing while i have been sick. he claims i don’t know how to be sick (i think it’s because i don’t get ‘man flu’). so he repeatedly brings me cups of hot tea, medicine, and sends me to bed early. bless him. the house is a shambles, there is washing to the ceiling and lots of food (rice in particular) under the baby’s high chair. i caved today and finally went to the doctor :( i am now on antibiotics :( i can’t remember the last time i took antibiotics and was stumped by the dr’s question if i would prefer amoxicillin or augmentin ???? i had no idea so went for the lower strength antibiotic.

anyhoo, mark gave me the weekend off and i pretty much spent it sleeping on the couch. but in my moments of consciousness, as i was looking around the lounge room, i decided it is in desperate need of some neon. neon neon neon. neon is happy. here are a few places from around the web that have made me happy …

onetwothreefour, five. wow ! get me some neon. xx

first hair cut.

the babe had her first hair cut this morning by the best hairdresser on the planet: ally joy. it is always such a fun time having ally come over and do our hair – joey thinks she’s great! this morning was a bit different for our youngest … these photo’s crack me up. she was particularly upset about getting her hair wet & then I think she just didn’t know how to cope. it’s worth saying, she had a bottle of warm milk & went straight to bed as soon as ally had finished. too sweet. these photos will definitely come out at her 21st birthday !!

i decided to mix things up and have gone ‘Raven Black’. All I need is a pair of doc martin boots & i will totally look the part !

thanks ally for working your magic !
