family portrait.

family 1 family 2 family 3 family 4 family 5 family 6

we celebrated a very special birthday for my MIL recently. since she absolutely adores her (continually expanding!) family we thought it totally apt to give a gift of a family portrait. so after a few discussions with my SIL, a rummage through our garage, wardrobes & homes we set up the tripod and took many a happy snap in our backyard. we had such a fun afternoon creating and snapping. my MIL just loved the portraits & I can’t wait to see where she puts them up in her home. these photos are by no means professional … but i think that’s what I like about them.

oh, and by the way, how adorable is my nephew?!?!?!?!?!? not long now until he is joined by his youngest cousin :)

trains.

having a boy means that our house is obsessed with cars, trucks, tow bars, trailers, planes, helicopters and trains ! we are in full transportation mode & let’s just say i have never in my life known the proper names for all the different types of transportation machinery until now. a couple of weeks ago all our little man’s transportation dreams came true when we took him to The Train Shed. It was a full-on family fun day. We drove for over an hour to get there and can you believe that this beautiful countryside is still in Sydney?! Love it ! The kids had chicken nuggets & we had lamingtons. I don’t think you get any more Aussie Kitsch than that. Here are a few pics of our little trip … xx

DIY heart photo collage.

here is a really easy DIY to fill some of that wall space that is just glaring at you day after day after day ….

i have never been one to frame photos & put them on the mantle piece to look pretty & collect dust. in fact I am the opposite ! when we first got married, one of the first things i did in our marital home was to take down all of mark’s framed photos !! there’s just something about framed photos that does not appeal to me … perhaps they are too clunky & take up precious room, perhaps it’s because the photos always seem so posed … or perhaps i’m just a little bit different?! (probably the latter!). but I do love photo’s ! that is one of the main things I love about blogging … the photos !

i am an absolute instaaddict. i love instagram photos because they are small, de cluttered & capture a moment in time at an instant without any fuss. so i had this great idea (again!) to use more of my instagram photos around our house. i found this great little company Printstagram who print your instagram photos & post them out to you. Easy ! And so was born the DIY heart collage …

Step 1: Find a Blank Wall in your Home.

Step 2: Select your best instagram photos & get Printstagram to print and send them to you.

Step 3: Arrange your photos in the shape you like (for me… always a heart !).

Step 4: Apply adhesive to the back of the photos.

I used double sided tape which I would only recommend if you are planning on painting your house in the future like us – otherwise it is not a good product for freshly painted walls. You could try painters tape or something similar.

Step 5: Place your photos on the wall.

How easy is all of that !

As you can see, I have a bit of space left in my heart on the left hand side. This was not done on purpose, however, I am really happy for the space because it allows me to add photos as our family grows.

The original idea came from this post … isn’t this place just divine?!

Happy DIYing !

weekend celebration.

we celebrated the baby’s first birthday this weekend. what a glorious Sydney weekend for celebrations ! we had a little do with a lot of cake on Saturday afternoon. it was only our immediate family which made our little gathering so intimate & special. the baby was showered with love & was completely exhausted by so much celebrating.

a big thanks to neil from peek-a-boo party cakes  (our sponsor !) for making the MOST tasty, MOST delightful, MOST moist cake that ever there was. there were lots of ‘oooo’s’ and ‘aahhhh’s’ when the cake was finally cut and displayed in all it’s glory.

the baby has also officially starting walking ! i am so pleased because our little wooden floors are so cold in the morning & now she can keep completely warm with woollen socks (& no hands or knees on the floor).

happy birthday beautiful girl !

long weekender on the south coast part i.

long weekender. it feels like everyone is going on them these days. so … we jumped on that bandwagon this weekend and have (literally) just arrived home from visiting nana & pa on the south coast. it was hot & humid, full of lots and lots of baths (joey had seven baths in three days!!?!?!), and no sleep for the baby.

this trip was totally different to the norm and yet it was still so enjoyable. we lazed about, played tennis, watched peppa pig and stayed awake all day … and all night. we were sad not to catch up with some dear friends (that’s YOU ;) ) or make a trip to our fav lee and me, but we enjoyed our family time so much, so, we were more than satisfied. since mark had to leave our long weekender early for work, we had such a lovely family reunion tonight when the kids & i finally arrived home. here are some of the highlights.
