norge

isn’t this norwegian home gorgeous?! i have been to norway only once and absolutely loved every minute being there even though it was the middle of winter. there is something fresh yet cosy about how they style their homes. and all the girls are simply stunning … i felt like a dark horse among such white blondy blondes.

we had our bedroom painted white this weekend. it feels fresh, crisp, white. so now i’m going crazy on Pinterest with ideas on how to decorate. it is such fun !

hope you had a fabulous Easter break.

Happy New Year !

joey & v

THIS is where we spent our first morning of 2013 #winning. We had a glorious time in the sun on the sand and in the waves. We’ll be backing it up with more tomorrow … and the next day … did someone say holidays?!?!?!

Hope your start to the new year was just as glorious as ours!

new year resolutions.

me & my babe

this time of year is always a great time to reflect on the past year, dream about the future & put some things in place to make the future a reality. i am a bit nervous about putting my new year resolutions in writing because it means i actually have to think about what they will be, then act. sheesh kebab ! scary stuff. but in order to grow in my faith & to grow as a person i really feel this is a good exercise for me to do. over the next few weeks i will flesh out my resolutions so they are not a stand alone statement, rather a thoughtful and actionable statement. i truly hope that i will be able to grow in all these areas & have an awesome year. so, here goes !!!!!!!!!!!!!

#1 increase in faith. this is the most important aspect of my life & constantly needs work :)

# 2 work on my marriage. a wise lady once said to me “choose your love & love your choice”. i have chosen, now i need to forever love my choice. i honestly believe when we grow in our marriage & in our love, our children also grow. win/win !

#3 be a friend & have friends. i am a terrible introvert … i never return calls, emails, text messages. i get scared of ‘get together’s’ – “what will i talk about?”; “what do they think of me?”; “am i too grumpy?” are just some of the thoughts that go through my head every. single. day. lucky for me i have hope & i know i can move past some of my issues (with A LOT of help). hopefully this will mean that i will be able to be a true friend & feel i have true friends in return. fingers crossed !!

#4 become a better photographer. this is MOST important to me. i am a hack photographer & i am really keen to up-skill as much as possible. Part of this will be the 365 project, part will be purchasing & learning Photoshop CS6, part of this will be discipline.

#5 blog more & better. i am almost at my year anniversary for blogging. yippee! i have had such a fun time learning about the blogosphere & i have learnt a lot reading others’ blogs ! I just love blogging & the blogosphere. so this is on my list.

#6 365 day project. more on this later ;)

#7 survive. finishing my Grad. Dip. Ed & welcoming a new child into our family are two massive things that are creeping up on me fast for 2013 … will i survive? i hope so !!!

So there you have it ! Since seven is the perfect number, I thought I would stop there. Anything more would be waaaaaay tooooooo much for me to handle.

What are some of the new year resolutions that you have?

2013 … I’m ready for YOU !

Christmas dinner party.

This year I had the honour and privilege of hosting a dinner for some girls who are very close to my heart. We journeyed through the tumultuous teenage years together. During this time we supported, encouraged, laughed, cried and even hurt each other (like all proper friends do), forgave each other, but most importantly we were friends with one another because of our faith. We are all still believers today and it makes my heart sing ! We have moved in our different directions and lived near & far from one another. Many have moved overseas, come back, gone again, home for the holidays etc. Some are working, others are mothers, some are studying others are just figuring out the next steps in life. This is partly what makes our friendship so diverse and so close. We can share anything with one another – we rejoice in each other’s successes & mourn with each other’s grief. It is a very special kind of group of girls. We meet once a year at Christmas time for dinner to have a proper catch up, a good laugh & of course to give gifts. We like to call ourselves KSBS.

I love that I have a friendship group like this one. While we have moved onto other close friendships we will always come back to one another to reminisce, to encourage, to laugh. I do hope that one day Mark & I will go on some overseas adventures (just for a short time!) …. but I know that wherever we go, I can always come back to KSBS at Christmas time & feel right at home. Thanks girls for being awesome ! For seeing the best & worst in me & for loving me anyway. For sticking together even during awkward or tough times. For sharing life together & never being afraid to be honest with one another. Here’s to a fantastic 2012 that God gave us all … and for an even better 2013 !!

cut down your own …

Christmas tree … YES PLEASE !

looking at all the trees finding the perfect tree still looking... and looking ... and looking ... ... and looking ... got it !

Last friday we bought our first ever real Christmas tree. Our house now smells absolutely divine & it really feels like Christmas. We initially thought that we would buy our Christmas tree from the local green grocer or from the Scout tree sale (a good cause!) until one of Mark’s colleagues suggested we cut our own Christmas tree … huh?! What? Where? How? All the questions that followed … so on Friday afternoon Mark & Joey drove a loooooooong way up the hill & into the bush to “The Farm” (as joey affectionately calls it) where you can choose & cut down your very own Christmas tree. And that’s just what we did. How cool ! I never knew this existed in Sydney but apparently there are a few pockets of places where you can do it. It was the best Christmas experience for Joey to date, needless to say that we will be making this one of our family’s Christmas traditions. The tree is now up & fully decorated (video to follow :) ) and we are all happy campers.

What are some of your favourite Christmas traditions?

out & about for Christmas …

martin place christmas tree baby, joey, uncle paul what usually happens all night

look! our family portrait ... happy Christmas ! running along the domain domain running carols 1 carols 2 carols 3 carols 4 carols 5 carols 6

this year we decided that we would embrace daylight saving with the kids & celebrate the christmas season during all hours of the day and night. so far we have watched the lighting of the christmas tree in martin place, sung carols on manly oval with my MG, attempted decorating our house, and had playgroup and kindy Christmas parties. the kids have had an absolute blast being out late at night, eating snacks all the way up to bedtime and generally just going crazy with each other & their friends ! they don’t like fireworks, or cannon balls and they are a little apprehensive when santa comes into view. but, despite all that they have survived & even blessed us with ‘sleep-ins’ (aka waking up at 7 am rather than 6 am … but hey! we’ll take whatever we can get!!). we have been spending time with friends from near & far & there is still so much more fun to be had ! we will be heading to the kiddie farm & carols at our local church, my brother is part of the band for carols under the bridge & we haven’t even made it to Christmas day! it is such a silly silly season & i think we all need it at this time of year.

here is the promo video for carols under the bridge which we just love going to each year …

how have you been celebrating this silly season?

birthday celebrations.

french breakfast dinner dinner playing on the beach

this week i celebrated my birthday ! it always sneaks up on me too fast, and then is gone in a flash… do you ever feel like that too? i had an awesome day of relaxation – the highlight for me was the unseasonal autumnal weather … ahhhhhhh, bliss. i had a full french breakfast at my favourite french cafe, watched a christmas movie with joey while baby slept, ate burgers & fries for dinner in my ultimate location with mark & the kids, skyped my sister in lon-don and went to the movies with mark to see skyfall (we even treated ourselves to a choc top ice cream cone – ooh aah !). it was positively the best.

all my gifts !

and look at all my presents!!! a replica eames hang it all, the ever essential blazer from bec&bridge, blog inc. (so appropriate) and parisian chic. perfect.

what do you like best about your birth-day?

christmas is here !

christmas is truly here. we’ve had thanksgiving, the weather is unbearably hot on some days (here in Oz), the Christmas decorations are up all over town & we have ordered our ham for Christmas day lunch. i just love this season. it’s my favourite ! we are attempting to decorate our house, but we have virtually no decorations – so i will be doing a lot of collecting of decorations during january for next year. but we are so excited about getting a real Christmas tree this year ! i love the smell of pine in the house – i have so many good childhood memories of Christmas attached to that smell. we play sufjan stevens’ Christmas collection ‘Songs for Christmas’ on repeat for the entire advent (with a little of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ to break it up’) and holidays for mark begin – yippee ! it is promising to be a great festive season :)

here is a sneak peak into the newest Christmas album by sufjan stevens. it has a bit of an Age of Adz feel to it and is not as folky as he traditionally is … but man i love his music. enjoy !

over the weekend…

we went to parties (including our first ever street christmas party!!), didn’t sleep & ended up taking miss v to ER in the middle of the night due to mild croup :( , played at the beach until late in the evening, ate fish’n'chips and chased seagulls, watched the cricket, nanna napped during the heat of the day, went to church, ate homemade pizza and drank coffee from the french cafe up the road … it was a whirlwind of a weekend & i only wish it could have lasted longer!!

father’s day 2012.

dear mark,

happy father’s day!!!!!!!!!!!! you are by far THE BEST dadda on this PLANET and we love you. thank you for always loving us, for always being fun, for always forgiving and for always surrounding us with music. you are the best. i love the priceless expression on joey & v’s face when they hear you walk in the door after work … it is an expression of excitement and anticipation of what the night holds. they are both clambering to be the first one to hug you and they know that everything is right when you are home. thank you for leading us spiritually, encouraging each of us in our gifts and for being the pillar of strength and reason. you are truly truly truly wonderful & we love you.
