it’s friday !

dad and joey

this is a picture of my dad & joey celebrating dad’s birthday this week. isn’t it the sweetest picture?! Dad just loves his grandkids… I mean loves them. he just thinks they are the greatest … and so do I !! he misses cousin c terribly and is always updating me on what songs cousin a is singing. it’s really sweet. i feel like my kids are the most blessed kids on the whole planet … they have two sets of grandparents that love and cherish them, who want to spend time with them doing things they love, like going to the zoo, swimming, going to the park, drinking baby cinos, riding on scooters, reading stories, playing music … they are the luckiest ! and i am also blessed to get help from family – the best people in the world to spend time with our kids.

this photo makes me happy. and also that it’s friday. and not just a regular friday, but a friday before a long weekend. yippeeeee !!

happy friday everyone … and happy Australia Day for tomorrow !!

christmas is here !

christmas is truly here. we’ve had thanksgiving, the weather is unbearably hot on some days (here in Oz), the Christmas decorations are up all over town & we have ordered our ham for Christmas day lunch. i just love this season. it’s my favourite ! we are attempting to decorate our house, but we have virtually no decorations – so i will be doing a lot of collecting of decorations during january for next year. but we are so excited about getting a real Christmas tree this year ! i love the smell of pine in the house – i have so many good childhood memories of Christmas attached to that smell. we play sufjan stevens’ Christmas collection ‘Songs for Christmas’ on repeat for the entire advent (with a little of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ to break it up’) and holidays for mark begin – yippee ! it is promising to be a great festive season :)

here is a sneak peak into the newest Christmas album by sufjan stevens. it has a bit of an Age of Adz feel to it and is not as folky as he traditionally is … but man i love his music. enjoy !

la femme d’argent.

mark has been away for the last two weeks and i have a week and a half to go without my better half … how will i survive? living at mum & dad’s and emails from my love like this:

“La Femme D’Argent – simply means the one who takes care of home in a very positive way.

Argent or Silver is hard shiny metal way cheaper than gold or any precious stones but way more common in use on the daily life basis. Word Femme is light and soft itself and may give negative touch or resonance to hard metal and currency from easy spending perspective, but here it should be looked at positively as the carrier of fairly small but crucial amount of money that’s needed to be spent on home needs to keep it warm and welcome.

Look at it as someone who bakes bread in the morning. And multiply it to the level of modern understanding of someone very wise, warm and caring.

Can you see the reason I am the luckiest girl alive?!?!?!?!?!

It just so happens that one of our favourite French bands is Air. Love them. Here is one of our favourite tunes that I have been listening to ever since I got Mark’s email this morning.

p.s. don’t you just love audrey tautou? i wish i was her.

#proudwife.

it doesn’t take much for my man to impress me. he pretty much just has to breathe & i am totally #proudwife. but this weekend was really special for him & also for me as i was with him when he was awarded the Premier’s Teachers Mutual Bank Mathematics Scholarship. wow ! what an incredible achievement. i was so proud & thoroughly enjoyed watching him be recognised for his creativity and his hard work. i am so excited to see what he gets up to in our lifetime together. let’s just say there is never a dull moment in our house because he is never satisfied with mediocrity or slowing down. even. for. a. second. i am just delighted for him & I can’t wait to hear about all his adventures from his study tour next year.

i was also absolutely delighted to witness a sweet little friend of mine receive the Premier’s COFA Scholarship for Creative Arts. The gorgeous hannah was my flatmate while i was at uni & bless her little heart she is the wonderful woman who introduced me to installations … our little unit was practically an installation with all her works while she was completing her studies at COFA. isn’t she just so gorgeous ?! she will use her scholarship to experience the shanghai biennale & other wonderful things. what a talented lady !

i am almost at my six month blog anniversary (tomorrow!) and wow ! what a ride it has been. i honestly did not expect much from blogging, nor for time to go so fast. but i have absolutely enjoyed every single minute of joining the blogging community & exploring what it is all about. here are my thoughts on the past six months:

- inspiration. the blogosphere is an incredibly inspiring place to be. wow ! thank you to all you bloggers out there who have given me the richest inspiration these last six months. you really have pulled me out of a rut & given me great motivation as a person, creatively & relationally.

eurovision 2012.

when i think of Eurovision all i can say is: wow ! at points during this year’s Eurovision i was speechless. i was without speech. wow. i still haven’t worked out whether or not the performers are actually serious, nevertheless, they give it their absolute best & i’m happy to be entertained by their many talents! the SBS commentary was outstanding this year & the twitter feed was genius.

the winner of Eurovision 2012 was truly outstanding. a friend of mine messaged me during the performance of Loreen from Sweden,

“Sweden just does it for me. Is there something wrong with me? I want to go and download it now.”

she echoes my thoughts exactly.  Loreen was a cut above the rest – she was so elegant & beautiful … the snow & the slo-mo at the end were a very very special treat !

but i must say, i keep coming back to my favourite Eurovision winner … Alexander Rybak from Norway in 2009 … check this:

Eurovision 2013 in Sweden … i’m counting down the days already !

who was your favourite performer in this year’s Eurovision?

xx

* fact: Celine Dion was discovered when she won Eurovision 1991. wow !

** and yes… ABBA were discovered at the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest … they sang ‘Waterloo’ which I love & found it hard to believe that during the interval act on the second night of the semi’s the performers forgot the words???!!!!

always the last to know …

ever since my school days i have always been the last person to find out anything about anything. i don’t know why, but i’m just a bit behind the eight ball when it comes to being ‘in the know’. i don’t mind – it’s just me & i don’t expect it to change.

recently i asked my source of all good things music (joanna kate) what i should be listening to. she suggested alice russell. bam ! i have hit a winner. but seriously?!?!?!?!?!? why has it taken me so long to jump on this band wagon??!!!!!

here is a little number that i have been cranking up on our stereo whenever i can.

what have you been listening to lately ? any more recommendations for me ?
