character.

i feel like i am moving into a season where my character will be refined. in the last few weeks i have had a lot of hard conversations being the deliverer and the deliveree & it feels like this is just the beginning. while i don’t feel ready for this season (when is one ‘ready’ for any season?!) i know it will be good and my character will be changed for the better as a result. for one thing, i know i need to work on my communication & this will be just the perfect season to refine that skill (however bumpy it may be!). it is scary, but i am totally surrounded by some incredible people who in their honesty, love me – especially when i feel unloveable. i am also lucky enough to be married to a wise & humble man. so i say… bring it ! may i never be afraid of change but embrace it, admit my failings, seek forgiveness & forgive and move onto greater things.

weekend celebration.

we celebrated the baby’s first birthday this weekend. what a glorious Sydney weekend for celebrations ! we had a little do with a lot of cake on Saturday afternoon. it was only our immediate family which made our little gathering so intimate & special. the baby was showered with love & was completely exhausted by so much celebrating.

a big thanks to neil from peek-a-boo party cakes  (our sponsor !) for making the MOST tasty, MOST delightful, MOST moist cake that ever there was. there were lots of ‘oooo’s’ and ‘aahhhh’s’ when the cake was finally cut and displayed in all it’s glory.

the baby has also officially starting walking ! i am so pleased because our little wooden floors are so cold in the morning & now she can keep completely warm with woollen socks (& no hands or knees on the floor).

happy birthday beautiful girl !

DIY party rock anthem.

i am not kidding. on saturday a friend of mine organised a flash mob for a very special lady’s birthday party. let’s just say it was a little bit too fun & i am so proud to say that i actually learnt this. yessssss !

if you are unfamiliar with it, here is the party rock anthem. ‘ever since that song came out … every day he’s shufflin … it will get in your bones …’ 28 days later …

here is the DIY.

It looks hard, but let’s face it … every day i’m shuffilin’.

grommets.

very very very (too) early this morning i took the babe to have her first operation: grommets. it is possibly the shortest operation known to mankind … but i was still a scared little mama. upon reflection, the whole thing is quite surreal really. we woke up, we drove to the day surgery clinic, i handed the babe over to the anaesthetist, twenty minutes later i was comforting my little babe who was completely disoriented, uncomfortable, and all of a sudden she could hear everything crisp & clear. the twenty minute wait is what gets me – the thought that at that moment she is asleep (forced), under the knife & I am not with her – gives me goose bumps. sheeeeeeeesh.

i am thankful for a few things:

- prayer. many many many of my family & close friends were praying for our little girl. i know this is the only reason why she did not complain before the op having fasted since 6pm the night before, and the only reason she has not complained after the op even though she is probably in a world of discomfort & quite frightened by all the noise. i also know this is the only reason that i am still sane – we only found out on tuesday afternoon that the operation was going ahead.

- feeding & crawling. i am so incredibly glad that i am still able to feed my baby. it was a source of great comfort for both of us when she woke up. i am also glad she is still crawling (albeit, she has already taken more than 4 steps on her own several times !) because the nurse said she will have ‘drunk legs’ for the next few days.

- grandparents. always there. always care.

here are a few pics of our little adventure pre-op:

she was none-the-wiser about what was just about to happen.

here are some pics post-op*:

all in all this was a pretty good experience. i am really happy for the babe that she will (hopefully) have no more ear infections, no more antibiotics & that she will be able to hear everything beautifully.

have you had a similar experience?

xx

* yes … it is a bit cruel to take pictures of the babe while she is in pain, but an old friend used to say to me that it is always good to take pictures of both the good & the bad. that way you remember those significant events in your life. and you can have a laugh about it once the pain has passed. (this friend would always take a photo of me when i took a really big stack skiing … embarrassing yes, but good to see after a hard day skiing!).

the blogosphere.

i am almost at my six month blog anniversary (tomorrow!) and wow ! what a ride it has been. i honestly did not expect much from blogging, nor for time to go so fast. but i have absolutely enjoyed every single minute of joining the blogging community & exploring what it is all about. here are my thoughts on the past six months:

- inspiration. the blogosphere is an incredibly inspiring place to be. wow ! thank you to all you bloggers out there who have given me the richest inspiration these last six months. you really have pulled me out of a rut & given me great motivation as a person, creatively & relationally.

- enormity. the blogosphere is enormous. i read a blog, that links to a blog that i then read, that links to another blog that i then read, that links to another blog that i then read &c. i love the enormity & diversity of the blogosphere. thank you bloggers !

- encouragement. i am astounded and humbled by the many readers who read & those who also comment on my blog. thank you for your encouragement. thank you for your honesty. thank you for your constructive feedback ! i am so honoured that you would read this blog. wow !!
